Do Chinese people not qualify as Asian? Forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but I was sort of under the impression that they did. At any rate, I’d suggest looking into Chinese, Chinese-American, or Chinese-English authors, like Amy Tan, Lisa See, or Jung Chang. Also, here’s a list of books set in or about China.

The Bone Setter’s Daughter by Amy Tan is wonderful. I would highly recommend it.

I used to be that person who read two 400-page books a week. Now I carry around a book with me everywhere I go to try and remember what it feels like to feel that connection within the pages because I can’t concentrate to read further than a paragraph, or remember it, for that matter. Every time I see someone engrossed in a novel, it’s bittersweet, because I miss what it is like to get lost in the written word. I just want to be able to read like that again.

But it’s better to write a book that kind of sucks rather than no book at all, as you wait around to magically become Faulkner. No one is going to write your book for you and you can’t write anybody’s book but your own.
